Sea Freight Controller

There is a Position available in Woodmead for an experienced Sea Freight Controller.

Expected duties: Operational Oversight: Supervise and coordinate sea freight operations, including booking cargo, container loading, documentation, and customs clearance. Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the company’s transportation management systems (TMS) or relevant software. Monitor vessel schedules, port activities, and shipping routes to optimize shipment planning and minimize delays. Stock management.

Team Management: Lead and manage a team of sea freight coordinators, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback. Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring efficient workload distribution and adherence to deadlines.

Customer Service: Act as the primary point of contact for key clients, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining strong customer relationships. Collaborate with customer service teams to provide accurate and timely updates to clients regarding shipment status and potential delays.

Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, import/export laws, and maritime safety standards. Verify and prepare necessary shipping documents, such as bills of lading, certificates of origin, and customs declarations.

Cost Management: Monitor and control sea freight-related expenses, including freight rates, demurrage charges, and other associated costs. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to optimize shipping routes and reduce operational expenses.

Vendor and Partner Coordination: Collaborate with shipping lines, carriers, freight forwarders, and other service providers to negotiate rates, secure capacity, and resolve operational issues. Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry partners to ensure smooth operations and timely resolution of challenges.

Performance Analysis and Reporting: Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to sea freight operations, such as on-time delivery, shipment accuracy, and cost performance. Generate regular reports for management, highlighting operational performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Minimum requirements for this position are as follows: At least a colleague education background, additional qualification of Sea Freight will be preferred. Minimum 4+ years of proven experience in the Sea Freight field will be preferred. Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular). Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Proven experience in sea freight operations, with a strong understanding of international shipping processes and regulations. Supervisory or team leadership experience, demonstrating effective people management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address operational challenges and optimize processes Efficient when working in a fast-paced environment. Proficient in data analysis, for planning.

Basic salary on offer: R 30 000.00 to R 35 000.00 negotiable with benefits to be discussed.
